Report to the Public Library Community on an Emergency eBook Meeting held in Columbus, Ohio on June 8, 2012 – prepared from notes by Ken Roberts, participant.

Report of a meeting with the goal to “produce a draft strategy that, if enacted, would have the best chance to ensure that the access rights Americans are not lost as commercial publishers shift their business models toward digital formats,” attended by representatives of 17 different library systems/organisations. Report describes existing America lobbying and partnership initiatives, and makes recommendations for further action on the issue of ebooks in public libraries. Specifically, calling for an umbrella advocacy strategy with attention to five subcomponent activities: Public education, lobbying, research, coalescing Associations’ initiatives, and publisher/author/vendor relationships.
